As you may already know, Fedora Philippines is currently being hosted by Bluepoint Foundation on a Xen VM using fedora.bluepoint.com.ph as interim domain. Let's pass the hat and get fedora.ph this year, shall we? We just need to raise 3,290 pesos to register the domain.

Hi! Just curious, which provider are we going to register the dns? And, is that for one year?

I'll do my part and spread the word about this

See you around

I believe we're registering it with domains.ph for three years? Am I correct?

Thanks for your help Aby! As Herson mentioned, we are registering fedora.ph with dotPH. The cost is 3,290 pesos for the first 2 years, based on their USD 1.00 = PHP 47.00 conversion rate. Renewal is also every 2 years.

May I suggest a fund raiser, like a limited edition T-shirt...

A polo-shirt, with embroidered fedora logo, to be sold for 600-1000 pesos ? that is if we can source such an item.

it would be nice to solicit for an endeavor, but we also need something tangible to give to our "sponsors" :-)

Thanks Jumbz! We can try to source the polo shirt from the same supplier of our Fedora t-shirt:

There's some discussion in the Fedora Ambassadors list about Fedora UK getting their own domain. Apparently, only communities with "language barriers" are "allowed" to have their own community websites. Fedora UK does not have a language barrier and should use the main project site.

I checked the guidelines and found the following:

"Community members may request from the Board a trademark license to use the Fedora trademarks in a domain name."

I guess this should be done first prior to getting fedora.ph no? Ah, we're using the word fedora right now in our interim domain! And we're using English in our posts. So we have no language barrier, just like Fedora UK?

Herson filed a request with Fedora Infrastructure to assign ph.fedoraproject.org to us last October, but he was told that the domain was reserved for translation efforts.

Maybe we can request for some other subdomain under fedoraproject.org? This should free us from trademark and funding problems. Herson?

Great idea Magie! If this fails, I will ask for permission from the Fedora Project Board.

Paul Frields begged us to wait for a Fedora system that will get those domains for local groups but the details are still sketchy and no timeline has been given.

Thanks Herson! Bluepoint will be happy to maintain status quo until then.

Paul recently mentioned something about fedoracommunity.org on the Fedora advisory board list:

> In fact, that's why, in part, we established the "fedoracommunity.org"
> domain -- because that way we can offer a domain to local or specific
> Fedora-related communities, and for which the communities don't have
> to pay out of pocket.

Paul Frields just made an announcement regarding fedoracommunity.org[1].
finally, we can get something like philippines.fedoracommunity.org or ph.fedoracommunity.org.

The guidelines are here[2] and the ball is now on Engels' hands

I filed a formal request last Tuesday, March 3. The Board unanimously approved ph.fedoracommunity.org last Wednesday, March 4. Now working with Fedora Infrastructure to have it up and running.

Eh, that's good. Let's hope and work together for the growth of the community. By the way, my strength in Fedora is on the server side particularly setting-up email, proxy, contentfilter and web hosting. Good day guys :-)
